YMCA Clevedon is closely monitoring the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. (updated 23/03/2020, next update 25/03/2020)

23/03/2020 – Due to the most recent government advice, all activities within the Clevedon YMCA building will no longer take place until further notice. We recognise that to keep young people, vulnerable people, our staff and our community safe this is a necessary measure. In the coming days, youth workers will be shifting to “digital youth work” strategy to stay connected with young people through these unprecedented times. This will be announced on our social media channels and website.

As the situation continues to change rapidly, our top priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our community, on and off-campus. Clevedon YMCA are actively seeking and adopting official up-to-date guidance from authorised government sources (NHS, Public Health England, WHO).

Please visit the NHS website for full information about coronavirus, including answers to common questions.

Symptoms of coronavirus

The symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature
  • shortness of breath

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

FAQs (Clevedon YMCA | COVID-19)

Will the YMCA operate as usual?

We have unfortunately at this stage had to close our building to the public. Our youth workers and team are still contactable via email and will become even more available over the next few days on social media. Keep an eye on social media and our website for how we will ride this out together.

What hygiene procedures are taking place?

Despite the building being shut to the public, we are maintaining a high level of hygiene and daily cleaning procedures being undertaken. Currently, a deep clean is being undertaken once per week.

What if I’m ill?

Please follow NHS and government advice if you are feeling unwell. If you have become ill and have visited the YMCA in the past 14 days, please inform us via email ASAP.

Do you still have foodbank vouchers?

We understand that the next few weeks and months will be difficult for many families. We are an organisation that provides foodbank vouchers to those living in Clevedon and will do so as the need is there. Our staff will be working from the building for as long as possible, so please knock on the door and we will help if we can. If we are not in, please call the phone 01275878405 leaving your name and number, and we will get back to you ASAP. We would encourage that if you do have extra in the next few weeks, that you check on your neighbours and others in the community to see if they have a need whether physical, emotional or spiritual (mind, body, spirit).
