With Covid-19 affecting all parts of our lives, the trajectory of youth work and how we respond will determine how we support young people in the future. Although we may be isolated from one another, face-to-face work not possible, it presents an opportunity to respond creatively, prayerfully and passionately. There’s many ways that we can respond, but here is the outline of what we will be doing across the next few weeks, and probably extend it into the future.

We’ve decided not to cop this alone, we’re coming together as youth workers across Clevedon. We believe it is not the time to work in silo, in-situ with the aim to get numbers in the door. Instead, we have launched @youthtogetherinclevedon to share encouragements, how and what we’re up to in isolation and a chance for young people to continue to interact with youth workers and others. Make sure to follow us and join the journey with us.

As part of this joint working, we will be hosting online gaming parties each week. The consoles have gone home and we’ll be ready to challenge you each week. Contact Jordan or Will on 07722 988 773 (through Whatsapp) to join.

All of our youth workers now have numbers that they’ll be using through Whatsapp to connect with our usual young people. We’ll get in touch with you and your parent/guardian if mentoring needs to be shifted to an online format. We’ll be hosting Instagram live and whatsapp group chats throughout the week so you can remain as connected as you usually would to the YMCA throughout this time.

As we journey through this together, we will change and adapt to the challenges that we face. We thank you for being patient, that you #stayhome during this time and that we will see one another face-to-face in the future.
